NEW DELHI, July 22 (Xinhua) -- Over 30 people have died and several others injured due to lightning over the past 24 hours in India's northern state of Uttar Pradesh, local media reported on Monday.

Seven people lost their lives each in Kanpur and Fatehpur, five in Jhansi, four in Jalaun, three in Hamirpur, two in Ghazipur and one each in districts of Jaunpur, Pratapgarh, Kanpur Dehat and Chitrakoot.

At least 13 people were injured in the state, it said.

Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath has condoled the deaths and announced about 5,714 U.S. dollars to families of each victim.

Media advisor to the state's chief minister Mrityunjay Kumar told Xinhua via phone, "It is too early to give more details about these lightning incidents since they happened only yesterday at various places in the state. We are in touch with district officials where lightning incidents took place to collect more details."
