CAIRO, July 22 (Xinhua) -- Egypt, the United States and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) started a joint military exercise on Monday in the Red Sea, the Egyptian armed forces said in a statement.

Some F-16 fighter jets, frigates, rocket launchers and minehunters, as well as special naval landing forces of the three countries took part in the drill dubbed "Eagle Response 19," the statement said.

The joint forces conducted special operations including detonating explosives under water, removing bombs, and anti-terror raids.

Saudi Arabia is also part of the joint exercises as an observer.

The joint exercise aimed at enhancing inter-operability and war-fighting readiness, fortifying military-to-military relationships and advancing operational capabilities of all participating units, according to the statement.

Egypt regularly holds joint military exercises with other countries to boost military collaboration and exchange military expertise.
