MOSCOW, July 22 (Xinhua) -- More than 5,000 servicemen are participating in special reconnaissance exercises in seven regions of the Russian Central Military District and also in Tajikistan, the Russian Defense Ministry said Monday.
During the exercises, which will last till Friday, the troops involved will practice measures to collect information on the location of a simulated enemy for commanders to make decisions on military operations.
The participants will also practice organizing and conducting ambushes, raids, patrols, camouflaging techniques and stealth movements on the ground, among other special tasks.
Over 800 pieces of military and special equipment are involved in the drills.
The Central Military District is the largest of Russia's five military districts, covering about 40 percent of the country's territory, including the Volga, Ural and Siberia federal districts, as well as Russian military bases in Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.
