SEOUL, July 24 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's export volume posted the biggest fall in nearly three and a half years on weak demand for liquid crystal display (LCD) panels that affected the shipment of computer and other electronic devices, central bank data showed Wednesday.

The export volume index declined 7.3 percent in June from a year earlier, marking the fastest reduction since January 2016, according to the Bank of Korea (BOK).

It was attributable to the contraction in LCD shipment that had a negative impact on the exports of computer and other electronic devices, of which export diminished 8.7 percent in the month.

The export value index tumbled 15.5 percent in June from a year ago, logging the biggest decline in almost three and a half years since January due to lower semiconductor price.

The export volume of integrated circuits, including memory chips, jumped 21 percent in the month, but the export value of integrated circuits plunged 23.3 percent last month after sliding 29.8 percent in the previous month.

The import volume index dipped 6.7 percent in June from a year earlier, and the import value index retreated 10.8 percent in the month.
