Myanmar always ready to cooperate with ASEAN members in curbing transnational crimes: official

NAY PYI TAW, July 24 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar is always ready to cooperate with fellow members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in curbing transnational crimes as well as in carrying out development under the regional grouping's framework, said an official of the Home Ministry Wednesday.

Speaking at the opening of the 19th meeting of Senior Officials of ASEAN on Transnational Crimes, Deputy Home Minister Maj-Gen Aung Thu hoped the current meeting could find best solution to the issues of violence, illicit drug trade, human trafficking, cyber crime, money laundering and illegal trade of animal products as well as reviewing over the results of the previous senior officials' meeting.

Myanmar Police Chief Aung Win Oo warned that transnational crimes, along with the daily advanced technology, have badly impacted developing countries, calling for constructive cooperation to settle the root cause of issues from a view point comprising all sectors.

The police chief also elaborated the government's assistance provided to the displaced people who fled the conflict following violence in Rakhine state, saying that the police force were mainly taking the responsibility for security and enforcement of rule of law.

The meeting is set to last for three days until Friday.
