RIO DE JANEIRO, July 24 (Xinhua) -- Brighton loanee Alexis Mac Allister struck late as Argentina's Boca Juniors won 1-0 at Athletico Paranaenese in the first leg of their Copa Libertadores round of 16 clash on Wednesday.
Mac Allister latched onto a Carlos Tevez pass before his long-range shot took a deflection and flew into the top right corner at Arena da Baixada in the southern Brazilian city of Curitiba.
The return leg will be played at Boca's La Bombonera in Buenos Aires next Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Ecuador's Emelec scored either side of halftime to secure a 2-0 home victory over Brazilian giants Flamengo.
Wilmar Godoy put his team ahead in the 10th minute but the hosts were reduced to 10 men just after halftime when Leandro Vega was dismissed for a bad foul on Flamengo's former Bayern Munich full-back Rafinha.
Despite the numerical disadvantage, Emelec continued to attack in numbers and they were rewarded when Romario Caicedo netted with a low finish 11 minutes from time.
In other matches on Wednesday, Paraguay's Cerro Porteno drew 0-0 away to Argentina's San Lorenzo and Brazilian side Internacional won 1-0 at Nacional of Uruguay.
