NAIROBI, July 25 (Xinhua) -- After beating three of the five World Cup-bound teams, Kenya will play Angola in the semifinals of the ongoing AfroCan Basketball Championships Thursday evening in Bamako, Mali.

Earlier, underdog Kenya has beaten Nigeria, Tunisia and Cote d'Ivoire to make it to the last four of the championship, which it has missed for the last 15 years.

Point guard Tylor Ongwae said the championship will be an eye opener for Kenya that will dominate the continent in the future.

AfroCan is only open to local-based players, allowing only two foreign based players to each of the teams.

"It's the best initiative which affords players who cannot make their countries A-team to bigger tournaments, and it will help improve the standard of leagues across the continent," said Ongwae, one of the foreign based Kenyan stars plying his trade in Denmark.

"I will feel on top of the world if we make it to the podium," said Ongwae. "Our records (3-1) so far in the AfroCan is enough motivation we needed to go all out against any opponent and Angola won't be an exception."

"AfroCan provided us the opportunity to put in place solid foundation for the continuous development of our basketball with a vision of qualifying for the next FIBA AfroBasket," he said. Enditem
