TUNIS, July 26 (Xinhua) -- The Tunisian interior ministry said on Friday that extraordinary measures had been taken to secure the funeral for Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi who died on Thursday at the age of 92.
According to a ministry statement, the funeral procession will leave the presidential palace at 11 a.m. local time (1000 GMT) on Saturday to the cemetery of El-Jellaz in the capital Tunis.
In statements to the media, Tunisian Prime Minister Youssef Chahed said the funeral will be attended by several heads of state and government as well as foreign delegations.
The body of Essebsi was removed on Friday morning from the Military Hospital in Tunis to the presidential palace amid a heavy security presence and crowds of citizens.
