KAMPALA, July 27 (Xinhua) -- Zimbabwe picked their second victory in the on-going 2019 Victoria Rugby Cup after beating hosts Uganda 31-26 in a game played here on Saturday.

Shane Makombe gave Zimbabwe the lead with a quick try after five minutes before Auden Burnett made it 10-0.

Hilton Mudariki scored the conversion to take Zimbabwe's lead to 12-0.

The Uganda Rugby Cranes tried to get back into the game but Takudzwa Kmadiro scored a third try and Mudariki converted.

Philip Wokorach then scored three penalties for Uganda and a drop goal to take the game into half time with Zimbabwe leading 19-12.

On resumption Ivan Magomu scored Uganda's first try to 17-19 with Zimbabwe leading. Wokorach made no mistake scoring the conversion to make it 19-19.

Zimbabwe put their act together before Matthew McNad and Shane Makombe added two more tries.

Uganda pulled more try through Desire Ayera but lost 31-26.

"I am happy that after struggles with the travel to Uganda we have won the game," said Zimbabwe Sables coach Brendon Dawson said.

Uganda Rugby Cranes head coach Robert Seguya was a disappointed man after the final whistle.

"We started poorly and failed to contain the opponents in the second half," Seguya said.

Zimbabwe Sables lead the table with nine points now. They beat Zambia 39-10 in their opening game and earned a bonus point. The win by more than three tries also guaranteed them one extra point to take them to 5 points.

The Victoria Cup is a tournament involving Uganda, Kenya, Zimbabwe and Zambia and they are playing a double round-robin system.
