Nanning Customs investigates over 1,200 smuggling cases

NANNING, July 29 (Xinhua) -- Nanning Customs in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region investigated and dealt with 1,203 smuggling cases in the first half of this year, involving endangered animal products and foreign waste.

The Nanning Customs said Monday the cases include smuggling of ivory and ivory products, pangolins and dried sea horses.

More than 3,700 tonnes of smuggled waste, over 8,100 tonnes of frozen food, as well as smuggled cigarettes, wine, drugs and bullets were also involved in the cases.

Objects involved in these cases were worth about 5.75 billion yuan (834 million U.S. dollars), according to Nanning Customs.

The border region said it would cooperate with different departments to fight against smuggling.
