NAIROBI, July 29 (Xinhua) -- Kenya's top basketball player has been named in the All African Star team after his exemplary performances during the inaugural basketball Africa Cup of Nations tournament that ended in Bamako, Mali over the weekend.

Tyler Okari will join countryman Bush Wamukota, the Democratic Republic of Congo duo of Maxi Shamba and Jordan Sacko as well as Edson Ndoniema of Angola to form the African all-star team that will be pitted against other continental teams.

Okari, the east African nation's free-scoring shooting guard, emerged tournament top scorer with 130 points to his name including his 21 points during the final match where Kenya lost 61-82 to the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Okari, who honed his skills at the University of Louisiana at Monroe (ULM) in the United States, is currently Kenya's top-ranked basketball player and presently pursues a professional career in Sweden.

He led the Kenyan team to clinch the 2019 Zone Five basketball championship which was held in Uganda where they emerged winners after they beat Egypt in the finals.

Okari was named Kenya's sports-personality-of-the-month in June after his efforts were instrumental in seeing Kenya make history to win the zonal qualifiers where he was voted the event's most-valuable-player.
