Founded in September 2004, the Chanba Ecological District (CBE) is located in the northeast of Xi'an City, capital of northwest China's Shaanxi Province，with a planned area of 129 square kilometers.
It is an ecological garden within a city, a rare setup in northwestern China.
However in earlier years, Chanba was known as the "sewer of the city" and "landfill site" in Xi'an.
In 2004, the Xi'an municipal government committed itself to improving the ecological environment of the rivers in the district, and officially established the Chanba Ecological District.
Over the past fifteen years, the CBE has adhered to green low-carbon growth via ecological construction, making great success in areas of finance, commerce, cultural tourism, exhibition and conference, as well as scientific and technological innovation, and has gradually emerged as a new hub in Xi'an.
By developing urban green belts and river bank economy, the CBE has propelled its development with good ecology.
CBE is not only the permanent site for the Euro-Asian Economic Forum, but also the site of Chanba National Wetland Park and the venue of the world horticultural exposition in Xi'an International Horticultural Expo in 2011.
Now, a number of Fortune Global 500, unicorn companies and projects have settled here, making Chanba an example of green development.
Through ecological construction, the CBE is decidedly transforming the advantages of natural environment into productivity.
