BERLIN, July 30 (Xinhua) -- Werder Bremen head coach Florian Kohfeldt has signed a contract extension ahead of schedule, the Green-Whites announced in an official statement on Tuesday.
The 36-year-old coach has inked a contract extension and will stay with Werder Bremen until June 2023. Kohfeldt's former contract was stipulated until 2021.
"Florian and his coaching staff have done an excellent job over the past few months. Since taking the helm in October 2017 there has been a significant development within the team," Werder CEO Frank Baumann said.
Kohfeldt was appointed as a caretaker after the dismissal of Alexander Nouri on 30 October 2017. Ever since, Bremen's performances improved and Kohfeldt was given a contract until June 2021 in April 2018.
"Here I got the chance as a young coach in a very difficult situation and I am pleased that we have laid a good foundation in the past two years. I am convinced that this was only the beginning for us," Kohfeldt said.
Since Kohfeldt took the reins Werder Bremen reaped 28 wins, 19 draws and 18 defeats in 65 matches.
The "Green-Whites" clash with Fortuna Dusseldorf for their Bundesliga season opener on August 17.
