BEIJING, July 31 (Xinhua) -- Chinese animated film "Ne Zha" continued to dominate the Chinese mainland box office on Tuesday, its fifth day of screening, the China Movie Data Information Network said Wednesday.
The domestic full-length animated feature grossed 191.46 million yuan (about 27.8 million U.S. dollars) on Tuesday. Its total box office reached around 1.1 billion yuan, becoming the highest-grossing domestic animated film.
Telling the life tale of Nezha, a beloved Chinese mythical figure, the film features a daring overhaul of Nezha's appearance and depicts him more as a mischievous boy instead of the hero kid in previous cinematic works.
"Ne Zha" was followed by the Chinese family drama "Looking Up" and Disney's "The Lion King," which raked in 22.05 million yuan and 6.28 million yuan, respectively.
