RIO DE JANEIRO, July 31 (Xinhua) -- Colombian forward Rafael Borre struck the decisive spot-kick as defending champions River Plate beat Cruzeiro 5-2 on penalties to advance to the Copa Libertadores quarterfinals.
The clash at Cruzeiro's Mineirao stadium ended in a goalless draw, repeating the result of the first leg a week earlier in Buenos Aires.
River converted each of their spot kicks while David Correa and Henrique Pacheco missed their attempts for the Brazilian side.
In Sao Paulo, defending Brazilian Serie A champions Palmeiras routed Godoy Cruz 4-0 to complete a 6-2 victory over the Argentine outfit.
Raphael Veiga, Miguel Borja, Gustavo Scarpa and Dudu were all on target for the hosts.
Meanwhile, Ecuadorian club LDU Quito drew 1-1 at Olimpia, a result that secured a 4-2 aggregate win over the Paraguayan side.
