KUALA LUMPUR, July 31 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia's producer price index (PPI) for local production decreased by 1.8 percent year-on-year in June, dragged by falls in prices for most sectors included manufacturing, official data showed Wednesday.
Malaysian Statistics Department said in a statement that the decline was led by the index of agriculture, forestry and fishing which slumped 9.2 percent, and mining that fell 6.4 percent.
Water supply and manufacturing index also dropped 1.8 percent and 0.8 percent, respectively.
Meanwhile, the index of electricity and gas supply edged up by 1.8 percent.
As compared to the previous month, the PPI declined 0.9 percent in June.
As for the second quarter, the PPI fell 1.6 percent as compared to the same quarter of the previous year.
On a quarterly basis, the PPI increased 0.4 percent as compared to the first quarter.
