Vietnam faces more cyber attacks in 7 months

HANOI, July 31 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam recorded 6,219 cyber attacks in the first seven months of this year, posting a year-on-year surge of 104 percent, local media reported on Wednesday.

Specifically, there were 2,155 phishing, 3,824 deface and 240 malware attacks, Vietnam News Agency quoted the Vietnam Computer Emergency Response Team under the Ministry of Information and Communications as reporting.

At the 2019 Vietnam Security Summit in April in the capital city of Hanoi, officials from the Vietnamese ministries of Information and Communications, and Public Security said in 2018, Vietnam encountered 3,818 deface attacks, 1,800 phishing attacks, and 949 malware attacks, and that cyber crimes caused losses of 642 million U.S. dollars to the country.

Representatives of Vietnamese and foreign cyber security firms said that last year, over 1.6 million computers lost data, 60 percent of network systems were infected with ransomware in Vietnam, and there were more than 15,700 security breaches in software and applications.
