MUMBAI, Aug. 3 (Xinhua) -- India's financial hub Mumbai was water-logged following heavy rains leading to suspension of local train services, though airport operations were functioning with some delays.
The city has been experiencing incessant rains for the past several days and the heavy down pour since Friday night has led to low-lying areas and arterial roads being submerged 3-4 feet under water that severely disrupted traffic.
"Due to high tide and water level increase, Suburban services are suspended," said a tweet by Indian Railway official.
"India Meteorological Department gave extremely heavy rainfall warning for next 24 hours from 3 August 1300 hours (local time). Citizens to note and avoid venturing around the sea and at waterlogged areas," the Mumbai civic authority - Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation said.
At Kharghar 28 km from Mumbai, one person was drowned while three persons are missing from a water-fall. Police and fire brigade officials are at the site.
In the adjacent Thane district 23 km from Mumbai - one person was electrocuted as heavy rains while in another incident a person suffered serious injuries after the roof of a bakery caved in.
An incident of fire on the mezzanine floor of a four-storey building was also reported in South Mumbai.
People stranded on the upper floors were safely evacuated and no injuries were reported, said the Mumbai fire-brigade official.
