ABUJA, Aug. 3 (Xinhua) -- Ten gunmen and two soldiers were killed following a gunfight between Nigerian troops and an armed group in the country's northern state of Kaduna, the army said on Saturday.
The gunfight ensued during a clearance operation by troops on a location of the armed group at Kuduru forest in Birnin Gwari local government area of the state on Friday, a leader of the army in Kaduna said in a statement.
Faruk Yahaya, leading the army in that part of the country, said the armed group's camp was completely destroyed during the clearance operation.
However, three soldiers sustained bullet wounds following the gunfight, Yahaya said.
The military official said efforts would be intensified to wipe out armed groups existing in the state.
Kaduna is one of the states that have been most-hit by kidnapping and armed attacks in recent months.
The Nigerian government has launched several special operations to curb this development.
