ISLAMABAD, Aug. 3 (Xinhua) -- The Pakistani army said on Saturday that the Indian army had used cluster ammunition along the Line of Control (LoC) in Kashmir region, "deliberately targeting civilian population in clear violation of the international humanitarian law."
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the Pakistani army's media wing, said in a statement that the Indian army "targeted innocent citizens, including women and children" in Neelum Valley along the LoC on the night of July 30 and 31 through artillery using cluster ammunition.
Two civilians, including a four-year-old boy, was killed while 11 others got critically injured in the latest Indian shelling, according to ISPR.
"Because of severe impact on non-combatants, use of cluster ammunition is prohibited under the Geneva Convention on cluster ammunition," the statement said.
Pakistan and India had declared ceasefire along the LoC and the Working Boundary in 2003. Both, however, routinely accuse each other of violating the ceasefire.
The Pakistani military urged the international community to take notice of this "Indian blatant violation of international laws on the use of cluster ammunition targeting innocent citizens."
Meanwhile, Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said India is "jeopardizing the regional peace in its war hysteria."
In a statement, Qureshi condemned the blatant use of cluster bombs by Indian security forces "targeting innocent civilians" along the LoC.
Terming the firing as a "clear violation" of the Geneva Convention and international laws, the foreign minister urged the international community to take notice of these "Indian atrocities."
There was no comments from the Indian high commission in Pakistan as of press time.
