Welcome to the miniature world on pit! The centuries-old traditional craft of pit carving prospers.

CHIFENG, Aug. 4, 2019 (Xinhua) -- The centuries-old traditional craft of pit carving first came into vogue during the Ming and Qing dynasties (1368-1911), in which fruit pits of olives, peaches, walnuts and other were used to create lifelike minute patterns of figures, landscapes, architecture and flowers and birds.

Sun Sida is an inheritor of Chifeng's fruit pit carving craft whose works feature various scenes of local lifestyle and statues.

He learnt about the pit carving from the internet in 2008 and practiced carving on olive pit. Having found modest success in pit carving, Sun started teaching apprentices in 2016 to pass down the craftsmanship.

"With our innovative ideas, I believe the carving will prosper." Said Sun.
