YAOUNDE, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) -- Cameroon's Army Chief of Staff General Rene Claude Meka on Sunday expressed concerns over the rising insecurity in the country's East region and pledged efforts to restore peace.
"We are facing security issues (there) due to crisis in the Central African Republic," Meka told reporters after a two-day working visit to the region. "We are closely following up the situation."
Cameroon shares its east border with the Central African Republic, where rebel militants are causing havoc, the army said.
"I simply asked our troops to put in more efforts for the security of Cameroonians and their property," Meka said, meanwhile calling for more public support.
On Thursday, East region's Governor Vincent Gregoire Mvogo, imposed an indefinite curfew in the region citing "rising insecurity and criminality" and murder cases committed "mostly at night."
