VIENNA, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) -- Four people were killed and at least one other severely injured following a head-on car collision in the southern Austrian state of Carinthia on Monday afternoon, local media reported.

The accident occurred on the Friesacher highway near the town of Molbling, northeast of state capital Klagenfurt.

Two cars travelling in opposite directions scraped each other, causing one to fishtail. The car, driven by a single 48-year-old occupant, then crashed head on with another oncoming car carrying four occupants.

The single occupant plus three of the people in the other car including a child died, while the remaining occupant, a 13-year-old boy, sustained severe injuries and was transported to hospital in critical condition.

Two other cars were reportedly also involved following the initial crash.
