LISBON, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- Portuguese unemployment rate in the second quarter of 2019 fell to 6.3 percent, 0.5 percentage points lower than the previous quarter and 0.4 percentage points lower year-on-year, according to official data issued on Wednesday.
The data, issued by the National Institute of Statistics (INE), showed that the unemployed population which was estimated at 328,500 people, a quarterly decrease of 7.1 percent and a year-on-year decrease of 6.6 percent.
The number of underemployed population stood at 676,500, showing a decrease of 61,000 or 8.3 percent compared with the previous quarter, and 42,200 or 5.9 percent less compared with the same quarter last year.
"The quarterly decline in the unemployed and underemployed in the second quarter of 2019 is in line with the downward trend observed since the first quarter of 2013, which has so far accumulated a decrease of 64.6 percent and 54.0 percent respectively," said the INE. Enditem
