BUCHAREST, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- A group of 15 Iraqi migrants was detected by border guards as they tried to reach Hungary on foot in a field, announced Thursday the Border Police of Arad, western county of Romania.
The migrants were trapped by the Romanian and Hungarian border guards who carried out in cooperation an action to combat illegal migration near the Varsand Border Crossing Point in the Romanian part.
During the action, the border guards intervened operatively, detecting the migrants at some 500 meters from the border line, among the crops in the area, says the Border Police, specifying that the migrants are all from Iraq, including ten women, four men and a minor.
Iraqi migrants are to be investigated for attempted fraudulent crossing of the state border.
This kind of incidents is not unique in the vest border of Romania, the easternmost border of Schengen zone.
Late last Sunday, ten migrants from Algeria and Palestine were tracked down by the Arad border authorities as they attempted to cross the border illegally to Hungary, on foot, on a field in the Turnu Border Crossing area.
There were three men -- two women and five children between the ages of 9 and 17 years.
