Ansai District of Yan'an, northwest China's Shaanxi, after years of efforts, has become a sample in returning cultivated land to forests.
BEIJING, Aug. 11, 2019 (Xinhua) -- Ansai District has been committed to returning cultivated land to forests and developing forestry industry tailored to local conditions. By far, About 1.4238 million mu (94,920 hectares) of forest has been reclaimed from cropland, which boosts the forestry coverage to 34.68 percent as compared to 18 percent in 1998.
The apple orchards with an area of more than 400,000 mu (about 26,666.67 hectares) in the district not only contribute to ecological protection, but also provide a long-term and stable source for locals to boost their income.
