BEIJING, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) -- The following are the highlights of China's key technology news from the past week:

RESEARCH VESSEL

China's research vessel Kexue03 has completed an investigation of late enteromorpha green tide and returned to Qingdao, eastern China's Shandong Province, according to China Ocean News.

The vessel departed Qingdao on July 19, with the mission of conducting investigation and research such as quantitative distribution, sedimentation and ecological effect on the late period of the green tide.

5G BASE STATIONS

More than 10,000 5G base stations will have been built in Beijing by the end of the year, the municipal telecom authorities said Wednesday.

As of July, the capital city had already constructed over 7,800 5G base stations, mainly located in its urban core zones, venues for the horticultural expo and the 2022 Winter Olympics, as well as its sub-center of Tongzhou District, according to the Beijing Communications Administration.

TEST RUN OF DRIVERLESS TAXI

A small fleet of taxis equipped with autonomous driving technologies and devices are now taking test runs in central China's Changsha as part of the Hunan capital's smart city push.

These "robotaxis," co-produced by Chinese artificial intelligence giant Baidu and domestic carmaker FAW Hongqi, are L4-level autonomous passenger vehicles capable of handling driving without human intervention under limited conditions and areas.

C919 INTENSIVE TEST FLIGHTS

China's C919 passenger airplane will enter a new phase of intensive test flights in the second half of this year.

A total of six prototypes of the jetliner model will be put to the intensive test flight missions with two more aircraft set to join the fleet.
