BERLIN, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) -- Werder Bremen have signed defender Omer Toprak from league rivals Borussia Dortmund on loan, the "Green-Whites" confirmed on Sunday.
The 30-year-old defender has agreed to a season-long loan deal, which includes an option to make the transfer permanent.
"Omer Toprak is a fast center-back who has played at the highest level for years. We are very glad that he has opted for us. He has played very well in the Supercup against Bayern and he can help us directly," Bremen head coach Florian Kohfeldt said.
Toprak knows the Bundesliga very well as he already played for Freiburg, Bayer Leverkusen, and Borussia Dortmund. Bremen's new arrival scored five goals and made overall 227 appearances in Germany's top flight.
"I am pleased to be here. I had good talks with Frank Baumann and Florian Kohfeldt. I am convinced of Bremen's project and want to contribute my part to continue the positive development," Toprak told the club's official homepage.
The "Werderaner" kick off their Bundesliga season against Fortuna Dusseldorf on August 17.
