YANGON, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- The death toll from the monsoon landslide has risen to 59 in Myanmar's Mon state as of Monday, according to the Myanmar Fire Services Department.
"Rescue operations are still underway and will continue until all bodies of victims are recovered," a fire service official told Xinhua.
Precautionary measures will also be done as there is a sign of more landslides at the area, the official added.
The mountainside of Ma-lat mountain collapsed due to the monsoon downpour at 7:00 a.m. local time on Friday.
Residents, houses and vehicles were swamped by deluge of mud and rocks from the collapse.
Caused by heavy monsoon rainfall, Paung, Mawlamyine, Mudon, Thanbyuzayat, Kyaikmaraw, Ye townships were flooded and some schools were temporarily closed in Paung township since early hours of Friday.
