CAIRO, Aug. 15 (Xinhua) -- The unemployment rate in Egypt declined to 7.5 percent in the second quarter of 2019, compared with 8.1 percent three months earlier, the country's official statistics authority said in a report on Thursday.
"The unemployment rate declined to 7.5 percent in the second quarter of 2019 from 8.1 percent in the first quarter of this year," said the report of the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics.
The unemployment rate in Egypt hit 10.6 percent in the first quarter of 2018, the report said.
The number of jobless people stood at 2.09 million, or 7.5 percent of the total workforce. The number of employed people rose to 28.07 million, the report added.
