ADEN, Yemen, Aug. 18 (Xinhua) -- At least 30 people were killed during armed confrontations raging for the fourth consecutive day between rival pro-government military and security factions in Yemen's southwestern province of Taiz, a security official told told Xinhua Sunday.
The security source based in Taiz said on condition of anonymity that "four days of intense clashes raging between security forces and army units linked to the Saudi-backed Yemeni government resulted in killing 30 people.
He said that the armed confrontations are still taking place between the rival forces in Albereen area to the southern side of Taiz.
A medical source confirmed the casualties figures saying that the dead people included "three displaced civilians, 13 soldiers from the 35th armored army brigade and about 14 security personnel."
According to the medical source, dozens of other were wounded during the ongoing clashes, including civilians.
An official of Taiz local authority clarified that "the clashes began on Thursday after sacking a security official from his post in the area and appointing a new one opposing the army forces."
The city center of Taiz is currently under the control of the government, while the outskirts of the city and areas in the countryside of the province are still witnessing armed confrontations between pro-government forces and the Houthi rebels.
The impoverished Arab country has been locked into a civil war since late 2014, when Shiite Houthi rebels overran much of the country and seized all northern provinces, including the capital Sanaa.
