BEIJING, Aug. 20 (Xinhua) -- Wang Chen, vice chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, met with members of the U.S. House of Representatives on Tuesday.
Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, said that the healthy and stable development of Sino-U.S. relations serves the basic interests of the two peoples, when meeting with Dina Titus, Ann Kirkpatrick and Alan Lowenthal.
Wang called on both sides to follow the directions set by the two countries' leaders in a meeting held in Osaka, Japan, and to adhere to the tenets of mutual respect and benefit, so as to realize further development of bilateral ties on the right track.
The U.S. Congress should prudently and appropriately deal with issues related to Hong Kong, Taiwan, Xinjiang and Tibet, and refrain from acts that might damage bilateral ties, Wang added.
U.S.-China relations are of great importance, said the U.S. representatives, adding that the U.S. side is willing to deepen exchanges and cooperation.
