ATHENS, Aug. 20 (Xinhua) -- A private helicopter crashed in the sea area off Greece's Poros island, and a rescue operation was underway to locate survivors, Greek national broadcaster ERT reported on Tuesday.
The number of people on board has still not been clarified by authorities. According to Greek Civil Aviation sources, the pilot had notified authorities that he would fly to Athens alone.
According to reports in local media, such as SKAI radio, there might have been up to four people on board.
According to preliminary information, the incident happened shortly after take-off.
The helicopter hit electricity power lines, eyewitnesses told ERT. A blackout on the island has also been reported.
