YANGON, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) -- Two mines were found after the opening of a temporary bailey bridge in northern Shan state in Myanmar Tuesday, which halted the traffic, media reported on Wednesday.
The traffic returned to normal on Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. local time, and the mines were discovered near the bridge soon after the opening.
After detonating and 4-hour clearing, vehicles were allowed to cross the bridge.
The triple truss, single storey, two-lane bailey bridge is 63 meters long, which allows trucks and vans weighing less than 36 tons to cross after load test, a Construction Ministry official said.
The temporary bridge was completed after a non-stop five-day construction.
The original Gote Twin bridge stood on Mandalay-Lashio-Muse road, a main border trade route in the northern Shan state that links China, blown up by armed groups on last Thursday.
Traders said over 5,000 vehicles passed through the Gote Twin Bridge carrying commodities worth 15 million U.S. dollars daily to the Muse border trade point. Enditem
