YANGON, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar authorities seized narcotic drugs worth over 217 billion kyats (144.67 million U.S. dollars) nationwide as of Aug. 15 this year, an official from Military True News Information Team told a press conference on Friday.
From Jan. 1 to Aug. 15 this year, the authorities confiscated more than 171 kg of heroin, 230 kg of opium and 44 million stimulant tablets across the country, respectively, said Maj-Gen Soe Naing Oo, chair of Military True News Information Team.
In 2018, drugs worth over 131 billion kyats (87.33 million U.S. dollars) were seized across Myanmar.
Maj-Gen Soe Naing Oo pledged to continue efforts to eradicate narcotic drug trafficking from the country. Enditem
