KANDAHAR, Afghanistan, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) -- A police officer was killed and his bodyguard injured as a mine planted by militants struck a police van in Taliban former stronghold the southern Kandahar province on Monday, police spokesman in the province Jamal Barikzai said.
The blast happened on a road in Arghandab district in the morning rush hour, killing a police officer on the spot and injuring a police personnel who had served as bodyguard, the official added.
Without providing more details, the official put the attack on the enemies of peace, a reference to the Taliban fighters, adding investigation has been initiated into the case.
