AMMAN, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) -- A Jordanian official on Monday condemned the provocative practices carried out by Israel at Al-Aqsa Mosque.
Jordan's Awqaf Minister Abdul Nasser Abul Bassal said the Jerusalem Awqaf Department was the only institution responsible for administrating the affairs of Al-Aqsa Mosque, according to the Jordan News Agency Petra.
The minister added the department is not subject to the Israeli occupation or to any of its regulations.
He slammed stationing large numbers of Israeli forces inside Al-Aqsa Mosque, which he said was merely an attempt to change the historical and legal status quo of the holy site.
He urged Israel to put an end to such aggression, which provokes Muslims around the world.
Jordan, which signed a peace deal with Israel in 1994, oversees the holy Islamic and Christian sites in Jerusalem including Al-Aqsa Mosque.
