KATHMANDU, Aug. 27 (Xinhua) -- Over 100 Nepali students have received Chinese government scholarship to achieve different degrees in Chinese universities for the academic year 2019-2020.

At the 'Awarding Ceremony of Chinese Government Scholarships' organized in capital city on Tuesday by Chinese Embassy in Nepal and World Cultural Net, admission letters were presented to the students amid the presence of their family members.

The awarded students will study Chinese language course in bachelor's, master's, and doctor's degrees in different Chinese universities in the faculties like engineering, medicine, forestry, business and technical subjects among others.

Addressing the function, Secretary at Nepali Ministry of Education, Science and Technology Mahesh Prasad Dahal said that Chinese scholarship is very important to generate skilled manpower who can contribute in nation building.

“More than 3,000 Nepali students have benefitted from the Chinese scholarship programs, and those students are greatly contributing to the socio-economic development of Nepal," secretary Dahal said.

Stating that cooperation on education sector will enhance people-to-people relationship between two countries, he expressed hope that the students can take the bilateral relations to a new height by working as goodwill ambassadors.

On the occasion, Chinese ambassador to Nepal Hou Yanqi said that more than 6,400 Nepali students are studying in China, adding that cooperation in education sector is an important aspect of the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative.

She also took the moment to appeal the Nepali students to fully utilize the opportunity and return home with skills and contribute in development of the country.

On the occasion, Nepali students who have received Chinese degrees under scholarship programs shared their experiences and their appreciation of the Chinese education system and cultural richness.

Expressing gratitude to the Chinese government, this year's recipients expressed hope that the Chinese education would be crucial in shaping up their career.

Twenty-four year old Bidushi Sharma is one of the recipients who will be studying Master's degree in Human Resource in Wuhan University of China.

"I will be the third generation in my family to receive university degree in China. I am very excited to start the new phase," Sharma told Xinhua.

The scholarship winning students will get free education along with free accommodation at different renowned universities in China.
