SAO PAULO, Aug. 27 (Xinhua) -- Gremio came from behind to defeat Brazilian rivals Palmeiras 2-1 and secure a berth in their third consecutive Copa Libertadores semifinal on Tuesday.

The result at the Pacaembu stadium levelled the scores 2-2 on aggregate but the 2017 champions advanced by virtue of having scored more away goals.

Former Shakhtar Donetsk and AC Milan forward Luiz Adriano gave the hosts an early lead by firing in from close range after goalkeeper Paulo Victor failed to make clean contact with a punched clearance.

Brazil international winger Everton then met Alisson Euler's floating free-kick with a superb left-foot volley into the far corner from an acute angle.

The hosts struck again four minutes later when Weverton parried away Everton's low effort, only for Alisson to rifle in the rebound.

Gremio's next opponent will be either Internacional or Flamengo in what will be another all-Brazilian clash in the semifinals.
