4.9-magnitude earthquake jolts Greece's Rhodes island, no injuries reported

ATHENS, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- A strong earthquake measuring 4.9 on the Richter scale jolted Greece's Rhodes island on Wednesday, according to the Geodynamic Institute of the Athens Observatory. No injuries or significant material damages have been reported by local authorities.

The tremor's epicenter was located in the sea area between the southwest coast of Rhodes and Karpathos island.

Greek seismologists revised downwards an earlier preliminary estimate of 5.3 magnitude given by the Euro Mediterranean Seismic Center.
