KUALA LUMPUR, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia's producer price index (PPI) for local production dropped 2.2 percent year-on-year in July as most sectors posted negative growths, official data showed Thursday.
Malaysian Statistics Department said in a statement that the mining index showed the highest decline at 9.9 percent, followed by agriculture, forestry and fishing indices which decreased by 6.5 percent.
Water supply and manufacturing indices fell 2.8 percent and 0.9 percent, respectively.
Meanwhile, the index of electricity and gas supply edged up by 1.5 percent.
As compared to the previous month, the PPI for local production declined 0.1 percent in July.
For the period of January to July, the PPI registered a decrease of 2 percent as compared to the same period last year.
