The inkstick is one of the "four treasures of the study," a Chinese term which refers to the ink brush, inkstick, paper and inkstone used in calligraphy. Like Chinese calligraphy, inkstick-making requires efforts and patience.

HUANGSHAN, Aug. 31, 2019 (Xinhua) -- Wu Chenglin is an inheritor of Huizhou inksticks making, a provincial intangible cultural heritage in Anhui. He started to learn the craft at the age of 16 and now owns an inkstick factory. Wu has dedicated himself to the inheritance and promotion of the traditional techniques by public demonstration of the making process in recent years.
