CHANGSHA, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) -- The construction of a giant excavator manufacturing base started Saturday in Changsha, capital of central China's Hunan Province.

Covering an area of around 100 hectares, the site is expected to have an annual production capacity of 33,000 excavators of different types, with an output value of 20 billion yuan (around 2.8 billion U.S. dollars).

The base is owned by Zoomline Heavy Industry Science and Technology, a leading Chinese construction machinery maker.

With advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence and the industrial internet of things, the company will upgrade its workshops and products and transform its service and management, in creating a world-class intelligent manufacturing base.

Global contraction machinery enterprises have been eager to grab a share of the excavator market. Experts said Zoomline's new move is expected to reshape the domestic market landscape.

Fu Ling, vice president of Zoomline, said the new site will comply with international standards to manufacture high-quality excavators and promote the company's competitiveness in earthmoving machines.

China's construction machinery industry has seen robust growth in recent years. According to the China Construction Machinery Association, the country's 25 leading excavator makers sold a total of 137,000 excavators between January and June, up 14.2 percent year on year.
