BUENOS AIRES, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) -- Former Argentina international striker Hernan Crespo has been dismissed as manager of Banfield after the team's poor start to the Superliga Argentina season, the club said on Tuesday.
Banfield have just one victory from their opening five league matches. Sunday's 1-0 home loss to Boca Juniors was their fourth defeat in five fixtures and saw them fall to 19th in the 24-team Superliga standings.
The club did not immediately say who would replace Crespo.
"Unfortunately, as is often the case in football, results have not been what the club expected or needed," Banfield said in an official statement.
Crespo oversaw four wins, six draws and eight defeats across all competitions after taking charge of Banfield last December.
The Buenos Aires outfit is currently 19th in the Superliga Argentina standings.
