SUVA, Sept. 4 (Xinhua) -- Police in the Samoan capital of Apia are working to extradite a Samoan man based in Australia in connection with a plot to assassinate Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi recently.

According to the Samoa Observer on Wednesday, Samoa's Police Commissioner Fuiavailili Egon Keil confirmed that the police had made an extradition application for Australia's Brisbane based Talalelei Pauga.

Keil said that they are working with their overseas counterparts to bring Pauga back to Samoa to face charges.

Talalelei Pauga, who is also known by the online alias ninja, threw a pig's head and dog food at the Samoan prime minister in Brisbane last year and was later discharged without conviction.

In relation to the assassination plot, the police allege that money changed hands between conspirators involved.

Police executed a search warrant relating to a recent financial transfer into Samoa from Australia that they believe may be connected to the assassination plot.

In August, Samoan police arrested two suspects, Malele Atofu Paulo, also known as King Faipopo, and Lema'i Faioso Sione, for being involved in the assassination plot.
