BEIJING, Sept. 8 (Xinhua) -- Chinese animated film "The Legend of Hei" led the Chinese mainland box office on its opening day Saturday, the China Movie Data Information Network said Sunday.
"The Legend of Hei" is a feature-length film based on a web cartoon series titled "The Legend of Luo Xiaohei" which tells the story of a supernatural black cat and the human family it lives with.
The film raked in 40.14 million yuan (about 5.67 million U.S. dollars), accounting for around 34 percent of the daily total.
Coming in second was "Fast and Furious Presents: Hobbs and Shaw," which grossed 26.97 million yuan on Saturday.
Chinese animated film "Ne Zha" ranked third by raking in 22.37 million yuan on its 44th day of screening.
