WINDHOEK, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) -- Namibia will launch the first fully online primary school program in 2020, announced by the Constantia Private School in a press statement on Thursday.
Constantia Private School, situated in Windhoek, is a registered school with the Ministry of Education.
"We have, through years of hard work, digitized the whole school curriculum, which is compliant with the Namibian system but also meets international standards. Students, currently attending the school, from Grade 0 to Grade 8 have been working on this system for the last seven years and have therefore tried and tested it," Amanda Moresche, the headmaster of the school said.
Moresche said the aim is to make quality education available to anyone at any given time.
"Our regular school will continue in 2020 but our online program will be available anywhere in Namibia and elsewhere, where students have Internet connection. The program runs on any android system, mobile phone or computer/laptop and there is no need to download special programs," Moresche said.
Moresche said students can also progress at their own pace and it is therefore possible to complete more than one grade per year.
"Students and parents have access to the system via our online portal and unique login 24/7. Each lesson is in video and audio format and is followed by a quiz. The quiz must be passed with 50 percent before a student can move to the next lesson. This ensures that the student has grasped the work. Marks are available immediately," Moresche explained.
Moresche further said that there are no exams and text books as everything is covered in the lessons, which may be downloaded on students' device for further study.
