OUAGADOUGOU, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) -- Two military personnel were killed and five others injured overnight Wednesday in an attack on army detachments in northern Burkina Faso, a security source said in the capital, Ouagadougou.
Unidentified gunmen targeted two army detachments in Baraboule and Nassoumbou localities in the country's northern Sahel region, according to the source.
The attack came as Burkina Faso prepares to host an extraordinary summit of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) on fighting terrorism, in Ouagadougou on Saturday.
"This summit signals the turning point in the fight against terrorism," ECOWAS Commission president Jean-Claude Brou said Wednesday.
Since 2015, Burkina Faso has been experiencing a wave of terrorist attacks that killed more than 500 people and displaced 280,000 others.
