WINDHOEK, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) -- A total of 23 people in Namibia lost their lives in separate road accidents this weekend, Namibian Police Force (Nampol) said Sunday.
Most of the accidents happened on the country's major highways, including public transport roads.
Namibian Police spokesperson Kauna Shikwambi attributed the increasing fatalities in road accidents to a number of reasons including human error and reckless driving.
"We are very concerned with the number of road accidents in this weekend despite trying our best to make sure that drivers adhere to road regulations. We would like to urge road users to practice caution on the roads for the safety of travellers," she said.
She also called for strict implementation of laws guiding drivers as well as stringent punishment of those who breach road laws.
