MINSK, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) -- Berkhan Afewerki from Eritrea won the Minsk Half Marathon 2019 on Sunday in the Belarusian capital.
Afewerki finished the distance of 21.1 kilometers in 1:04:09. Ukrainian Mikola Lukimchuk, a long-time leader on the track, came second to the finish line, losing 22 seconds off pace from the winner. Kenyan David Kiptui Tarus completed the race in 1:05:33 and ranked third.
On the women's side, Belarusian Nina Savina won with a time of 1:11:24. Shega Maeregu from Ethiopia won the silver and third was her teammate Tesfanes Denby.
40,000 participants took part in a race that for the first time was assigned a silver label from the International Association of Athletics Federations. Enditem
